Extract the audio from your video

Turn a video podcast episode into the MP3 or M4A that Apple Podcasts and Spotify take. It runs in your browser, so even a two-hour camera file never uploads.

  • Seconds for an M4A

Drop a video or audio file here

MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, or audio like WAV and FLAC. Long episodes are fine.

How it works

  1. Drop your episode

A camera file, a screen recording or the exported episode. It stays on your computer.

  2. Pick a format

M4A copies the audio as it was recorded, MP3 plays everywhere, and WAV is for editing. Each option shows how big the file will be. It can also play a one-sided recording on both sides and bring the episode to −16 LUFS on the way.

  3. Download it

Upload it to your podcast host, or keep going in the other tools: tighten the pauses or check the loudness.

Publishing the audio version of a video podcast

YouTube gets the video, but Apple Podcasts, Spotify’s audio feed and most podcast hosts want an audio file. If you edit the episode as video, the audio version is one step away: take the finished video, pull out its sound and upload that. There’s no need to export twice from your editor.

M4A, MP3 or WAV?

Most cameras and phones record AAC audio, which is what an M4A holds. So M4A can copy it straight across: an hour of audio comes out in seconds, with no quality lost. MP3 is encoded at 128 kbps, which is plenty for speech and is accepted by every host and app. WAV is uncompressed (about 10 MB a minute in stereo), for when the audio goes into an editor next.

Why nothing uploads

The tool uses your browser’s own media features and a small MP3 encoder that runs on your computer. Your episode never leaves it, so there’s no upload to wait for and no size limit beyond your computer’s memory.

Before you publish, run the audio through the loudness checker to make sure it lands at −16 LUFS, or through the silence remover to tighten the long pauses.

Recorded the episode on several cameras?
