Podcast Cover Art Requirements by Platform

Every podcast platform has slightly different artwork requirements, and getting them wrong means rejected uploads or blurry thumbnails. Apple Podcasts requires a minimum of 1400×1400 pixels (3000×3000 recommended), RGB color space, no transparency, and JPG or PNG format. Spotify accepts images as small as 640×640 but recommends 3000×3000. YouTube follows a similar 1400×1400 minimum. All platforms require a 1:1 square aspect ratio. This tool checks your image against all four platforms at once so you know exactly where you stand before publishing.

Common Podcast Artwork Mistakes

The most common reason cover art gets rejected is the wrong color space. Designers often export in CMYK for print, but podcast platforms need RGB. Transparent backgrounds (common in PNGs) cause issues on Apple Podcasts because the app can’t render alpha channels. Other frequent mistakes include upscaling a small image to meet dimension requirements (which produces visible blur) and exporting files larger than 2 MB. This checker catches all of these issues before you upload.

Why Thumbnail Size Matters for Podcast Artwork

Your carefully designed cover art will spend most of its life as a 40–80 pixel thumbnail in someone’s podcast queue or playlist row. Bold text and simple shapes survive the downscaling; thin fonts, fine details, and busy backgrounds turn to mush. The visual preview in this tool shows you exactly what your art looks like at real app sizes, so you can make design decisions with confidence before publishing.
